Borrowing

1.     NTU faculty, staff and students can use university ID card or library borrower card to borrow books from the library.

3.     Recalls

If a book is reserved by another user upon checking out, the loan period will be limited to half of the original loan period (i.e. 60 days to 30days, 30 days to 14 days, and the minimum loan period is 14 days).

Loan period will not be changed if the book is reserved after it has been checked out.

Please note that branch libraries and department libraries may have different rule.

4.     Reference materials, periodicals, newspapers and AV materials are limited for use in the library.  

Returns

1.     You can drop your books you wish to return in the return box located at the entrance of the library. The return date will be the next day after you return the books.

2.     You can return the books from department libraries to the General Library, Medical Library or Law & Social Sci. Library.

Renewal 

1.     You can renew your books 5 days prior to the due date.

2.     You can renew your books online or by phone.

3.     Please note that renewal will not be completed in the following conditions:

item is over due

item is onhold

renew the same item for twice

user's borrowing privilege is locked temporarily, ie: unpaid fine

too soon to renew(only accepted during 5 days prior to due date)

 

Online renewal can be performed as follows:

1.     From the main menu of TULIPS, click on "VIEW your circulation record."

2.     Enter your barcode and PIN number, and then click on "Display record for person named above".

3.     Click on "XX Items currently checked out" to display list of items on loan to you.

4.     To renew all items, click on "Renew All". To renew selected items, check the box(es) against the desired item(s) and then click on "Renew selected items".

5.     Note down the new due date or any messages.

6.     To avoid other users from tampering with your circulation record, click on "Start Over" to exit from your record.

Online Reserves

 

Online requests are only accepted if the item is borrowed by another user due or held in the library f or another user tem status: on hold shelf or on processing order or catalogue.

 

The maximum quota of requests is 5 items.

 

When your requested book is returned, it will  display in your circulation record. 

 

To reserve a book, follow the steps below:

1.     Use title, author or call number search to locate the record in TULIPS.

2.     Upon display of the full record on screen, click the "Request" button at the top of the screen.

3.     Enter your  barcode and PIN, and then click on "Submit above information".

4.     Choose one item from the list shown and then click "Request selected item"

5.     The message "Your request has been sent to the library" will appear. Click "Start over" to continue.

 

How to confirm your request

1.     Confirm your requests from "View your circulation record" in main menu of  TULIPS.

2.     Enter your barcode and PIN, and then click on "Display your record".

3.     Click??XX Request (hold) outstanding??to display list of items you have requested. You may cancel your request by marking the box against the title(s) you wish to cancel, then  click "Cancel selected items".

4.     To avoid other users from tampering with your circulation record, please click "Start over" and return to the TULIPS main menu.

 

When the requested item has returned

1.     When the request item has returned, besides display in your circulation record, library will also send circulation notice pick-up notices for requested item to alert.  Users should register a valid e-mail address for receiving the notice.

2.     All requested item returned will be on hold shelf for 5 working days. If the requester does not pick up the book during the time period, the item will be moved to next requester or back to library stack.

 

Late Return of Books

1.     Please return all checked out items on or before the due date. If a book is not returned by the due date, it is considered overdue and is subject to overdue fines. Fines for the late return of books borrowed will be charged $5 dollar each item by day.  Overnight item will be charged $5 dollar each item by hour. The fine will be cumulated until the item returned to library

2.     Users with late returned books or fine cannot check out, renew or request any book.

Replacement for Lost/Damaged Book

 

1.     Any defect or damage to a book should be reported to the item location librarian immediately it is noticed. Users will be held responsible for loss or damage to any book whilst in their charge, and will be required to pay the full value of replacement. After paying for their replacement, users will not keep damaged items or, in the case of lost items, any that are subsequently found.

2.     Users should complete the replacing procedure during 14 days since the book due date, otherwise, users have to pay the overdue fine besides the replacement book or fee.

3.     Replacement is processed according to library regulations and should be approved by librarians.
