Using Library E-Resources FAQ |
When the message “IP 163.28.16.4: Access Denied!” appears, what do I do? |
If “IP 163.28.*.*: Access Denied!” appears when using library e-resources on campus, turn off your computer server settings.
163.28.*.* is the proxy server IP address. The proxy server may automatically switch back to previous NTU campus network 140.112.*.*. Disable these settings.
How to configure settings: In your browser, go to Tools --> Internet Options --> Connections--> LAN settings --> Automatically detect settings, then disable the proxy server below. If you have selected Automatic configuration script, make sure the address entered is: http://proxy.ntu.edu.tw/pac/ntu.pac
|
I clicked a database and a window asking for a username and password popped up. What do I do? |
1. Usernames and passwords for databases requiring them appear below the name of the database on the Library Databases site.
2. If usernames and passwords are not found on the Library Databases site, please verify the following information:
(1) Is the database restricted to a certain number of users at one time? If so, the database should indicate the database is full and to try later. Ex: IEL (15 users), FirstSearch (6 users), WorldCat (1 user), Sikuquanshu (10 users).
(2) Those wanting to use databases from home or work may refer to the NTU Library HomepageàDatabasesàOff-campus Connection to learn how to use Off-campus Connection Services to access library e-resources.
(3) If you need further assistance, please contact the NTU Library Reference and Extension Services Department, Tel: 3366-2326,Email: tul@ntu.edu.tw. We will resolve the problem with the service provider a soon as possible.

Why am I asked to enter a username and password when using e-journals and databases? |
Currently, library e-resources are only accessible by computers on campus (140.112.*.*). Do not use a proxy server when accessing e-journals and databases.
Use of databases on campus is mostly restricted to IP access. As long as you are using the campus IP 140.112.*.*, it should not be necessary to input you username and password.
When a username and password are required, it might be due to the following reasons:
1. The database might be one of the few that control access via both IP and password. The usernames and passwords for these databases have been placed on the Library Databases site for you.
2. Check your browser proxy settings and disable the proxy.
3. Some databases restrict the number of users. The Library Databases site will indicate whether it is full and you should try later.
4. If the database still prompts you for a username and password when trying to access it from within the Library, it might be due to connection or database server problems. Please leave your name and contact information so we may contact you after the problem has been resolved by the service provider.
NTU faculty, staff, and students may access library e-resources via the Off-campus Connection Services. For more details, visit http://www.lib.ntu.edu.tw/news/wam.htm |

Once you have set you browser, you should come to a page asking for your Patron ID and PIN. If this does not happen, you have not properly configured your browser.

Please check whether you are eligible to use library e-resources…,” please call the Library at 33662326. |
I have successfully entered my Patron ID and PIN, but I am still unable to use the e-journals and databases. What do I do? |
The remote symbol on searchable database and e-journal pages indicates that these links are accessible from off-campus. E-journals and databases without the symbol may not be accessed from off-campus. If there is a problem with an e-journal or database, please call or e-mail the Library at 3366-2326, Email:tul@ntu.edu.tw. The Library will test the site. If a problem is found, the Library will contact the service provider as soon as possible. Once the problem is resolved, the Library will send a reply. |
