至於我們應如何去應用或取得這些資源? Internet提供以下主要四個 功能：遠程載入(TELNET)、檔案傳輸(FTP)、電子郵件 (E-Mail)、線上交 談；其中各圖書館的線上公用目錄(Online Public Access Catalog, OPAC) 即是透過遠程載入提供世界各地讀者查詢。不過現在的圖書館資訊系統 亦不單單提供查詢圖書館目錄的功能，有的甚至提供期刊目次查詢、期 刊論文索引、聯合目錄、百科全書、指南、統計資料、書評、電子期刊 等等。今天我們即介紹 CARL(Colorado Alliance of Research Libraries) 統裏的UnCover(Article Access & Delivery)。
