The text begins with stating about an earthquake occurred in Central Taiwan. On April 21, 1935 (the 10th year of Japan’s Shyo-wa Era), a sever earthquake hit Taiwan at 6 am. The greatest number of deaths and injuries occurred in Hsinchu and Taichung. In these places many victims lost their homes and their properties were destroyed during the earthquake. People could see ruins everywhere and the massive injured people in addition to the tremendous number of deaths. The miserable scene was too sad for just taking a glance for everyone. The writer composed this narrative folk lyrics requesting that people should “help the distressed”, help their compatriots.
