The folk lyrics concerning the Central Taiwan earthquake

文本從中部震災事件說起。日治昭和十年(1935)四月廿一日清晨六時，台灣發生大地震，新竹、台中兩地，死傷最為慘重。由於大地震關係，地方上受難者或失去家園，或財產毀滅，或身體受傷，災情不堪目睹。因此本歌說書者期望藉此歌勸大家「濟困扶危」，幫忙同胞。
The text begins with stating about an earthquake occurred in Central Taiwan. On April 21, 1935 (the 10th year of Japan’s Shyo-wa Era), a sever earthquake hit Taiwan at 6 am. The greatest number of deaths and injuries occurred in Hsinchu and Taichung. In these places many victims lost their homes and their properties were destroyed during the earthquake. People could see ruins everywhere and the massive injured people in addition to the tremendous number of deaths. The miserable scene was too sad for just taking a glance for everyone. The writer composed this narrative folk lyrics requesting that people should “help the distressed”, help their compatriots.
