WriteAid Similarity Scanner
Introduction
The Ministry of Education has commissioned the National Central Library (NCL) and technical team from National Taiwan Normal University (NTNU) to jointly develop the "WriteAid Similarity Scanner(WASS)." This system is built upon the data from the NCL's existing "National Digital Library of Theses and Dissertations in Taiwan." The primary purpose of this system is to support the writing of academic theses and dissertations. It aims to provide graduate students across all universities and colleges in Taiwan with a tool to assist in similarity detection. This will help and encourage graduate students to independently learn academic writing skills for their theses and dissertations and proactively verify the originality of their work.
Service Target
- The intended users of this system's services are limited to current graduate students who are in the process of writing their theses or dissertations. Student accounts will be activated by staff in each graduate institute.
- The supervising professor is not a user of this system and does not have an account. The system will automatically email the student's report link to the advisor, or the student can share the report link.
- The system service will be available this semester from May 7, 2025, to August 31, 2025. (Usage time extensions will be announced in the system.)
- The system will regularly clear all student accounts at the end of each semester. Comparison results will disappear after account deletion, so please properly save the offline comparison results.
Instructions
- This system has school administrator accounts and student accounts for each university. The library establishes school administrator accounts for each graduate institute office, and each graduate institute office activates student accounts for graduating master's and doctoral students. You'll receive an "Account has been created" email once your application is approved. Please click the "Set password" link in the email to set your password. After setting your password, you can log in and start using "WriteAid Similarity Scanner." (https://wass.ncl.edu.tw/)
- Both school administrator accounts and student accounts can log into the system. Once logged in, go to the "Similarity Scanner" interface to upload a thesis or dissertation for similarity detection and obtain comparison results. Student accounts are limited to 5 times of similarity scanner. For the 4th time or more, there's a 24-hour waiting period to submit the scan. If a student reaches their comparison limit, please contact your graduate institute office for assistance with further comparisons.
- The comparison results display a similar sources, similar sentences, and a statistical table of similar characters by chapter. However, it does not present a similarity percentage.
