Article 1

The National Taiwan University (NTU or “the University”) Library (“the Library”) formulates the NTU Library Directives for the Handling of Lost and Found Items (“the Directives”) to handle matters related to lost cash and personal items (excluding food and beverages) found in the Library which are handed over to the information desks by patrons or members of NTU.

Article 2

The librarian on duty at the information desk shall fill out an NTU Library Lost and Found Record Form (“record form”) on the Library’s Online Lost and Found Bulletin System for each lost and found item, print out the record form for signing by the person who found the item as confirmation, and publish a notice for the item.

Article 3

Upon receiving a lost and found item, the librarian on duty shall check the contents of the item and, if any ID or contact information is found, notify the owner to pick up the item at the information desk on the given floor. The record form shall be affixed securely to the item for identification purposes.

Article 4

The owner of a lost item may claim the item at the original information desk if they are able to visit the Library within seven days of being notified. If, however, they are unable to do so within this time, the information desk shall appoint a person to deliver the item to the Division of General Administration and inform the owner to claim the item at the Division during office hours.

Article 5

In the event that no ID or contact information can be found or that the owner cannot be reached, the information desk shall appoint a person to deliver the item to the Division of General Administration.

Article 6

The information desk shall handle items that are found while the Division of General Administration is closed (e.g.,Saturdays and Sundays) in accordance with Articles 3 and 4 herein, but shall deliver them to the Division on the next business day.

Article 7

Lost and found items that are not claimed within six months shall be handled in accordance with the University’s Directives for the Handling of Lost and Found Items on Campus.

Article 8

The librarian on duty shall confirm with the owner the contents of the lost item at the time that the owner arrives in person to claim it. Upon confirmation, the owner shall sign their name in the “receipt signature” field of the record form to signify the closing of the case. The signed record form shall be submitted to the Division of General Administration for recordation and reference purposes.

Article 9

The Directives shall be passed by the Library Affairs Meeting and then implemented on the date of promulgation.
