NATIONAL TAIWAN UNIVERSITY LIBRARY
Principles for the Management of Materials Remaining from the Japanese Occupation of Taiwan
April 21, 1992 Passed by the 1,776th Administrative Meeting
Article 1 |
National Taiwan University (NTU or “the University”) formulates the NTU Principles for the Management of Materials Remaining from the Japanese Occupation of Taiwan (“the Principles”) to ensure the proper handling of books and materials dating back to the period of the Japanese Occupation. |
Article 2 |
All academic and research materials dating back to the Japanese Occupation (before November 15, 1945), including books, maps, photographs, pictures, and rubbings (collectively, “materials” or “items”), held by any unit of the University shall be subject to the Principles. |
Article 3 |
Each unit shall safeguard the materials in their possession. A unit that wishes to give up possession of an item shall, regardless of whether the item has been registered as property of the unit, seek the resolution of the unit’s library committee and/or the review of the competent administrative unit, which shall then forward the case to the competent senior administrator for approval. |
Article 4 |
Any unit that wishes to give up possession of any materials shall first notify the NTU Library (“the Library”) of the contents and quantity of the materials. Upon being notified, the Library shall consult with the Office of Academic Affairs, which shall then invite administrative units and faculty members in related fields to determine whether the materials are of any preservation value. Materials that are determined to be of preservation value shall be handled by the Library in accordance with its standard operating procedures. Materials that are determined to be of no preservation value and are not registered as property may be disposed of immediately by the original unit. However, materials that have been registered as property shall be written off in accordance with the applicable regulations prior to disposal. |
Article 5 |
The Principles shall be passed by the Administrative Meeting and then implemented upon promulgation. The same shall apply when amendments are made. |
