Service Policies and Fees for Reproduction and Use of Closed Stack Materials in National Taiwan University Library Special Collections

1. Service Policies and Fees for Reproduction and Use of Materials in National Taiwan University Library Special Collections(hereafter referred to as The Policies and Fees) are issued by National Taiwan   University Library Special Collections Department (hereafter referred to as The Department). The basis for the Policies and Fees derives from Article 9 of The Rules for Readers in the NTU Library Special Collections Department (hereafter referred to as The Rules).
2. Reproduction methods defined in the Policies and Fees include to photocopy, print, film, videotape, photograph, or digital scan materials in the special collections. The Department reserves the right to extend reproduction service to other methods and forms. The term “Use” defined in the Policies and Fees means to apply images or audio-visual materials from special collections in all sorts of publications, exhibitions, or broadcast.
3. The Department reserves the right to choose the reproduction method based on the material. The Department also reserves the right to deny reproduction of materials to any patron when the requested collection is at risk, or violation of copyright and privacy is at issue. In all cases where reproductions of the materials requested already exist, researchers must use these to make reproductions.
4. Reproduction service is not available for the following materials: 
    a.Rare or unique copies of Chinese and Japanese stitch-bound books, and their reproductions.
    b.
    Materials deemed to be at risk or too fragile for use.
    c.Materials retained right by their donors or copyright holders.
    d.Materials in the University Archives when violation of privacy is at issue.
    e.NTU yearbooks.
    f.Materials restricted for use.
    g.Materials with existing reproductions.
5. Photocopy service is not available for the following materials:

    a.Materials published prior to 1850 A.D.
    b.Materials deemed to be at risk if photocopied by the Department

6. For organizations wishing to acquire reproductions of materials in their entirety, official application letters are required in advance. If the requested materials are concerned rare or unique in Taiwan, exchanges on reciprocal basis are expected. The requested materials shall not be used for purposes other than stated in the applications.
7. Permission for reproduction and use is limited to the applicant and is non-transferable. Any permission granted will be for one-time, none-exclusive use of the material. Applicants are required to resubmit their applications for any subsequent use, constitutes reuse, or change in use from that stated on the previous applications.
8. Materials used for exhibition, publication, or broadcast must be credited to National Taiwan University Library. Applicants shall agree to donate 3 copies of the work containing the reproduction to National Taiwan University Library.
9. Applicants must agree to pay in accordance with the Policies and Fees. Generally no materials will be supplied until payment has been received. Applications would be handled on a case-by-case basis if the situation is not specified in the Policies and Fees.
10. For delivery service, shipping fees would depend on the cost of the item and the method of delivery. An additional handling fee of NT$50 is required for each delivery service.
11. The Policies and Fees would take effect following the approval of the NTU Administrative Meeting Committee

Notes
  • When the pages requested exceed 1/3 of the entire material, the applicant must agree to make a photocopy of the material in its entirety instead, and pay in accordance with the service chart.
  • The cost for making an additional copy for the library when requesting photocopy of a material in its entirety has been included in the specified service fee.
  • The Department reserves the right to decide the reproduction format for making a photocopy of a material in its entirety.
  • General turnaround time for photocopy orders: 2 business days.
  • General turnaround time for photocopy orders of bachelor’s thesis: 3 business days. Photocopy cost for bachelor’s thesis in its entirety: NT$4/page in A4 size, B&W.
  • No photocopying service is available for the following materials: (1) the original size of the material is larger than A3; (2) materials published prior to 1850; (3) materials in no condition to be photocopied. Digital scanning service will be provided as an alternative if possible, patrons may request for a digital copy of the scanned file or a print-out on an A4 size paper.
  • For special cases that require out-sourcing, reproduction fees depend on the service providers. An additional handling fee of NT$200 will be charged per item.
  • The turnaround time would be longer for complex or large-quantity applications.

  • For special cases that require out-sourcing, reproduction fees depend on the service providers. An additional handling fee of NT$200 will be charged per item.
  • The turnaround time would be longer for complex or large-quantity applications.

  • None-commercial use is for personal use only i.e. for research, education, thesis…etc.
  • Commercial use is for publication, exhibition, website, broadcast…etc.
  • For digital image requests, an extra handling fee might be required. Please refer to Table 2 for more information.
  • For video requests, fees are charged on per-minute basis i.e. for the duration of a full minute even though the actual duration was less than a minute.
  • Screenshots captured from videos would be charged as requesting digital images.
  • General turnaround time: 5 business days.
  • For special cases that require out-sourcing, reproduction fees depend on the service providers. An additional handling fee of NT$200 will be charged per item.
  • The turnaround time would be longer for complex or large-quantity applications.
  • No use fee required for NTU publications, exhibitions or broadcast. The applicants still need to pay for reproduction fees and extra handling fees if required.
