Article 1

Rationale:

National Taiwan University (NTU or “the University”) Library (“the Library”) formulates the NTU Library Directives Governing Borrowing Privileges for Students on Leave of Absence (“the Directives”) to allow students who are on a leave of absence to borrow resources from the Library for thesis/dissertation writing purposes during their leave.

Article 2

Eligibility:

Master’s and doctoral students of the University who have completed the procedures for a leave of absence.

Article 3

Application method:

  1. Applicants shall fill out a Borrowing Services Application for Students on Leave, have it signed by their advisor, the head of their academic program, and the academic program office, and then present their student ID card at the Library to apply in person
  2. Processing hours: 8:20 a.m. – 5 p.m., Monday through Friday [Applications not accepted on weekends, holidays, or closed day]
  3. Locations: Students on the Main Campus who are on a leave of absence shall visit the 1F Service Counter at the Main Library. Students of the College of Medicine/Public Health who are on a leave of absence shall visit the Medical Library to apply.
Article 4

Service regulations:

  1. Students on a leave of absence and who apply for borrowing privileges under the provisions stipulated herein may still borrow books from the Library with their student ID card. The expiry date of their borrowing privileges will coincide with the final day of the semester for which they are on leave.
  2. The Circulation Services are based on NATIONAL TAIWAN UNIVERSITY LIBRARY Borrowing Rules. Each branch library, departmental library may formulate their own borrowing rules that apply to their collection, which shall prevail over the provisions stipulated herein. 
  3. Students who apply for reinstatement and re-enrollment shall notify the Library to correct its records and restore their original borrowing privileges.
  4. Students on a leave of absence who borrow items from the Library shall be responsible for safeguarding such items and returning them to the Library on time. Overdue, damaged, or lost items shall be handled in accordance with the applicable regulations of the Library.
  5. Matters not addressed herein shall be subject to the applicable regulations of the Library. 
Article 5 The Directives shall be passed by the Library Affairs Meeting and then implemented on the date of promulgation.
