National Taiwan University (NTU or “the University”) Library (“the Library”) formulates the Directives Governing Space Usage at the Digital Media Commons (“the Directives”) to ensure the reasonable use of space at the Digital Media Commons, such as the audiovisual area, e-learning area, Media hubs, rehearsal rooms, and group learning room, and to facilitate patrons’ utilization of the audiovisual media and e-learning resources in its collection.

Article 2
|
Audiovisual area and e-learning area
- Function: The audiovisual area is equipped with two-person seats intended for watching/listening to the audiovisual materials with public performance rights. The e-learning area features individual seating intended for e-learning.
- Eligibility: NTU faculty, staff, students, and alumni may use all seating in accordance with the provisions herein. Visitors may only use the seating in the audiovisual area.
- Usage guidelines:
- Advance reservations are not available. After entering the Library with a valid form of identification, patrons shall select a seat in person through the Library’s Space Management System and then use the seat that they selected. Patrons are required to sign off through the same system when they finish using a seat. Patrons who wish to use a seat in the audiovisual area must first visit the service desk to check out audiovisual materials with public performance rights.
- Seats may be used for a maximum of four hours. Those who wish to continue using the area after their session ends may use the system to select another seat if available. After they are done, patrons shall return the audiovisual materials to the service desk. Audiovisual materials may not be removed from the Library.

Article 3
|
Media hubs and rehearsal rooms
- Purpose: Media hubs allow small groups of patrons to use audiovisual materials with public performance rights, and the rehearsal rooms may be used by individuals to practice giving presentations.
- Eligibility: NTU faculty, staff, and students may use Media hubs and rehearsal rooms in accordance with the provisions herein. Media hubs are reserved for groups of three or more patrons. Those in the National Taiwan University System who have applied for the Tri-Library Loan Service may also use the space if at least one of the group members is an NTU faculty, staff member, or student.
- Usage guidelines:
- Patrons may log into the Library’s Space Management System to make reservations. Reservations may be made up to 2 weeks in advance. Each patron may reserve up to 6 hours per day and up to 12 hours in the 2-week advance reservation period.
- The valid identification cards of the minimum number of persons required to check in shall be presented by 15 minutes into the reserved session at the latest, or the reservation will be canceled automatically.

Article 4
|
Group learning room
- Purpose: The group learning room is reserved for larger groups that wish to use audiovisual materials with public performance rights held by the Library.
- Eligibility: The group learning room may only be reserved by NTU faculty members in accordance with the provisions herein.
- Usage guidelines:
- Faculty members may log into the Library’s Space Management System to make reservations. Reservations may be made up to 4 months in advance, and each faculty member may reserve up to 6 hours per week and up to 24 hours in the 4-month advance reservation period.
- Reservations made by faculty members who fail to use a reserved group learning room by 15 minutes into the reserved session shall automatically be canceled.

Article 5

Usage guidelines
- Patrons shall help keep the environment clean and use the Library’s instruments and equipment with care. Patrons shall be held liable for indemnification for loss of or damage to Library instruments or equipment resulting from inappropriate use.
- To ensure reasonable and equitable use, the space specified herein may not be used for regularly scheduled courses or club activities. The Library may notify patrons of the cancelation of a reservation if it requires the reserved space for a major event or other necessary reasons.
- Upon a patron’s departure from the Library, space reserved by the patron will be released, and any personal items that remain may be removed by the Library, which disclaims any responsibility for safeguarding such items.
- Patrons who are unable to use a space during the reserved session must cancel in advance. Overtime use is not permitted. Furthermore, the Library may suspend violators’ usage privileges for one month.
- Matters related to the borrowing of audiovisual materials held by the Library shall be subject to the Library’s Borrowing Rules, and other violations shall be handled in accordance with the Library’s Regulations Governing the Handling of Patron Violations.

Article 6
|
The Directives shall be passed by the NTU Library Committee and then implemented on the date of promulgation.
