Borrowing


NTU faculty, staff and students can use university ID card or library borrower’s card to borrow books from the library.

Recalls


If a book is reserved by another user upon checking out, the loan period will be shortened to 14 days. However loan period will not be changed if the book is reserved by another user after it has been checked out.
Please note that branch libraries, department libraries and Multimedia center may have different rule with regarding to recall policy.
Reference materials, periodicals and newspapers are limited for use in the library.

Returns

Borrowers can return the books at Main library, branch libraries or department libraries no matter the location library of books. Borrowers can also drop their books in the return box located at the entrance of the Main library when the library is closed. Please note the actual return date will be the next day after dropping the books.

Renewal

Borrowers can renew their books 5 days prior to the due date via online renewal, by phone or email to circulation services desk. Please note that renewal will not be completed in the following conditions:
Item(s) in your record is/are overdue;
Item is on hold (reserved by another user);
Renewal is up to three times;
User's borrowing privilege is locked temporarily for unpaid fines;
Too soon to renew (renewal are only accepted during 5 days prior to due date).

Online renewal can be performed as follows:
From the main menu of TULIPS, click on "VIEW your circulation record."
Enter your Patron ID and PIN number, and then click on "submit" button.
Click on "XX Items checked out" to display list of items currently checked out to the borrower.
To renew all items, click on "Renew All"; to renew selected items, mark the box(es) of the title(s), and then click on "Renew selected items".
Please note the new due date will be shown on the screen as successful renewal done.

 

Online Reserves

Online requests are only accepted as the item is checked out or the status of the item in TULIPS is “in transit”, “on cataloging”, “in order processing” or “on holdshelf”. When your requested book is available for pick-up, it will display in your circulation record.

To reserve a book, follow the steps below:
Use title, author or call number search to locate the item in TULIPS.
Upon the item’s record displays on screen, click on the "Request" button at the top of the screen.
Enter your Patron ID and PIN, and then click on "submit" button.
Select the “Pickup Location” and choose one item from the list with the same title, and then click on "request selected item" button.
The message “Your request for xxxxx was successful” and "You will be able to pick up this material at xxxxx when it is ready" will appear on screen.

How to confirm your request:
Confirm your requests from "View your circulation record" in main menu of TULIPS.
Enter your Patron ID and PIN, and then click on "submit" button.
Click on "Requests" to display list of items you have requested. You may cancel your request by marking the box(es) of the title(s) you wish to cancel, and then click on "Cancel selected items" button.

When the requested item is available for pick-up:
When the requested item is available for pick-up, besides message displaying in your circulation record, library will also send a circulation pick-up email notice to remind you. The default email address of NTU students is NTU email account; the other users should register a valid email address at circulation services desk for receiving the notice.
All requested item returned will be on hold shelf for 5 working days. If the requester does not pick up the book during the period, the item will be moved to next requester in line or back to library stack.
 

Late Return of Books

Please return all checked out items on or before the due date. If a book is not returned by the due date, it is considered overdue and is subject to overdue fines. Late return of books will be charged NTD$5 overdue fines for each item per day. Overnight item will be charged NTD$5 overdue fines for each item per hour. The fines will be cumulated until the late item returned to library
Users with late returned books or unpaid fines cannot check out, renew or request any book.|
 

Replacement for Lost / Damaged Book

Any defect or damage to a book should be reported to the item location librarian immediately. Users will be responsible for loss or damage to any book in their records, and will be required to pay the full value of replacement. Users should complete the book replacement procedure during 14 days since the book due date; otherwise, users have to pay the overdue fines besides the replacement book or fees. Users can’t ask the library to refund the replacement fees after paying for replacement fees of lost/damaged book.
